Pori Art Museum’s KORSI commission in 2025 will be carried out by Lentävä Puutarha (in English ‘Flying Garden’) group. Laura Lilja, whose exhibition opened at the art museum in June, was approached to create the 2025 KORSI commission piece. Lilja is currently a lecturer at the Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts, Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK), which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, and she invited artists from the school to participate in the project. Lentävä Puutarha work will be created by Jönssi Heikkinen, Uljas Kaitala, and Victoria Torboli. Also involved as a coordinator, invited by Lilja, is artist Eero Yli-Vakkuri, who has taught performance art at the Kankaanpää School of Fine Arts.
Lentävä Puutarha will be seen in various parts of Satakunta during the summer. The artists will take care of people’s houseplants, which will be arranged in temporary public gardens. The piece explores the history of houseplants and the communities they create around them. Plant enthusiasts are invited to leave their plants to the temporary garden for a day.
As part of the project, the journey of one houseplant to Denmark will be followed. Lentävä Puutarha will also take place in Luvia’s local history museum [in Finnish ‘kotiseutumuseo’] in July 11-13. The piece will conclude on August 31st during the Sensommar Film Festival in Reposaari, Pori.
You can follow the development of the piece through the artist group’s website: lentavapuutarha.net. During the summer, a bike trip blog will be updated, and live broadcasts of the temporary gardens and their plants will be shown through the plant live feature. On the website, you can sign up for the mailing list. After the project, the website will serve as an archive. You can contact the Lentävä Puutarha team and comment on its development through the site as well.

The KORSI commission is part of the Pori Art Museum’s role as the regional responsibility art museum for Satakunta. The program commissions works from artists working in Satakunta, and the commissioned works also take place in various parts of Satakunta. The art processes extend beyond the museum walls to different parts of the region, creating opportunities for art encounters and reaching new audiences.
