Exhibition at Pori Art Museum 6.1.-11.2.1996

Opening at the Pori Art Museum at Easter, the extensive retrospective exhibition of Professor Jorma Hautala presents his diverse production over a period of thirty years. Dating back to 1966, the exhibition includes paintings and mural sketches as well as prints and sculptures.

Jorma Hautala (b. 1941) is one of Finland’s best-known contemporary artists, whose works are in numerous important public collections in Finland and abroad. Hautala’s works represent subtle and considered abstract expression, in which colour, spatial and line structures engage in a lively and tense dialogue with each other. Hautala’s work has been characterised by an active approach – she has worked simultaneously in many fields. She has been a teacher and a graphic designer for many years. Collaboration with architects has been an important part of his work. Related projects include the colour scheme for Aleks’s courtyard in Helsinki city centre (1991) and the mural “The Taking of the Cross” for the Espoo Church Parish Centre (1995).

The exhibition will be accompanied by a 115-page exhibition booklet with numerous colour illustrations of his work. The authors of the book are Tuula Karjalainen, Director of the Helsinki City Art Museum, PhD, and architect, Professor Juhani Pallasmaa.

The exhibition will later be on show at the Oulu Art Museum from 26 February to 7 April and at the Helsinki Art Hall from 19 April to 19 May 1996.
