MEDIA RELEASE

Mika Aalto-Setälä & Ulla Karttunen: THE LOST LOVE LETTER
Pori Art Museum, May 14 – June 9, 1996

Ten Finnish art museums are participating in the Lost Love Letter project, which takes place in May and June 1996. The project, created by Mika Aalto-Setälä and Ulla Karttunen, is in three parts: 10,000 letters distributed to the homes of museum visitors, posters displayed in the museums, and a manifesto published in a newspaper. The participating museums are: the Alvar Aalto Museum in Jyväskylä, the Turku Art Museum and the Ars Nova Museum in Turku, the Joensuu Art Museum, the Kuopio Art Museum, the Lönnström Art Museum in Rauma, the Pori Art Museum, the Rovaniemi Art Museum, and the Tampere Museum of Contemporary Art. The Holy Love Manifesto, published in Helsingin Sanomat on May 12, is produced in collaboration with the State Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

At the Pori Art Museum, the posters related to the project will be displayed in the museum’s lobby from May 14 to June 9, 1996. In addition, the postal service will distribute 1,000 randomly selected copies of the project book to various addresses.

“The Lost Love Letter is a manifesto of sacred love, where names are written together, to be lost. It is a work about separation and inseparability, passion and obsession, and the absoluteness of love.”

Simultaneously with the Lost Love Letter project, a collection exhibition will be on view at the Pori Art Museum until June 2, and a series of Finnish video art screenings will be held until May 19.
