GARDEN OF TIME – Timo Heino

In the stairwell of the east end of the Pori Art Museum, artist Timo Heino (b. 1962) is exhibiting his work Garden of Time.

The work, consisting of round mirrors and a layer of dust attached to their surface, is part of the collection of the Pori Art Museum. The work was exhibited in 1997 at the exhibition ‘Hotel@ of the Heart of the Heart’ at the old Hotel Otava in Pori.

The staircase connecting the lobby and the upstairs lecture hall is the only original interior of the old horizontal and frost room dating from the 1890s. The Garden of Time is linked to the history of the space, symbolically through the >dust of time= attached to the surface of the mirrors. At the same time, it reflects the movement in the staircase, becoming part of the practical function of the space and of everyday life.

The long-term placement of the work in the staircase of the Art Museum for public viewing is part of the 2000 project to highlight the importance of collections alongside temporary exhibitions. The publication of Timo Heino’s work is the first in a series of publications entitled ‘My own’, which will continue to present individual works from the collection or groups of works by a single artist in texts and images.
