Pori Art Museum presents Swedish art from the Sundsvall Museum collection in the [Esimakua] exhibition. Simultaneously, Sundsvall Museum is showing a selection of Finnish contemporary art from the Pori Art Museum collection in the [Försmak] exhibition.

The temporary exchange of collections is part of the friendship city activities between Pori and Sundsvall and continues the collaboration between Pori Art Museum and Sundsvall Museum.

Both museums share a similar history in their architecture: both are 19th-century former warehouse buildings located by the water that were converted into cultural spaces in the 1980s. Sundsvall’s Cultural Warehouse houses not only art exhibition spaces but also the museum’s historical permanent exhibition and a library.

The Sundsvall Museum’s collection of Swedish art is one of the most significant collections outside Stockholm. In Pori, works by older generation artists such as Maja Braathen, Kalle Hedberg, Arne Jones, Bror Marklund, and Lennart Rodhe are on display from the Sundsvall Museum collection. Younger artists represented include Ernst Billgren, Max Book, Maya Eizin, Maria Lindberg, Bengt Lindström, Birgitta Muhr, Anna Nordenskiöld, Stig Sjölund, and Hans Wigert.

At Sundsvall Museum, works from the Pori Art Museum collection are displayed by artists such as Lauri Anttila, Kari Cavén, Jorma Hautala, Timo Heino, Kaisu Koivisto, Matti Kujasalo, Esko Männikkö, Jussi Niva, Paul Osipow, Esko Railo, Mari Rantanen, Silja Rantanen, and Kimmo Sarje.

The exhibition is curated from works in the Maire Gullichsen Art Foundation and Pori City Art Collection, as well as from Pori Art Museum’s archive collections. The exhibition project has been supported by Jetson Coast Link AB from Sundsvall and Pori Sokos Hotel Vaakuna.
