ALVAR AALTO IN SATAKUNDA – ARCHITECTURE EXHIBITION AT THE PORI ART MUSEUM
July 1998
In the lecture hall of the Pori Art Museum, an architecture exhibition titled “Alvar Aalto in Satakunta” will be on display during the jazz festival. The exhibition showcases the work of Finland’s internationally renowned architect, Alvar Aalto (1897-1978), in Pori and other parts of Satakunta.
Internationally significant buildings by Aalto in the Satakunta region include Villa Mairea in Noormarkku and the Kauttua Terrace House in Eura. In the field of urban planning, a significant Aalto project is the Kokemäenjoki Valley Regional Plan, one of the earliest regional land-use plans in Europe.
In addition to these well-known works, the exhibition also features Aalto’s more everyday production in Satakunta: wooden prefabricated houses, industrial and storage buildings, and various zoning plans.
The exhibition mainly consists of photographs. Original items on display include a large map of the Kokemäenjoki Valley Regional Plan and an oil painting that Aalto named after Satakunta. A slide presentation features Aalto’s existing buildings. A folder with drawings and textual material is also available. The exhibition catalog is available in English.
Welcome to the exhibition!
