It is not a memory…it is a Life – A tribute to Gazan women filmmakers

Shashat is an independent non-profit women cinema NGO in Palestine whose focus is on women’s cinema and the social and cultural implications of women’s representations. Shashat, which means “screens” in Arabic, was founded in 2005. Shashat is involved in building the capacity of young women filmmakers and is the sole organization in the country which has focused on and made as its priority women’s cinema as an agent of social change. The film screening is related to the recent De Se – attitude exhibition at the Pori Art Museum, which dealt with how knowledge of place and agency is expressed and structured in art. Feminist epistemology is the practice of reading situations from the perspective of social and political prejudices, values or biases and highlighting their role as well as personal perspectives in knowledge production. In the current situation of brutal genocide targeting Gaza, the film screening is a tribute to Gazan female filmmakers, and a cry for the value of humanism, acknowledging the unsurpassable unique existence of every human.

The event is organised by the curator of the De Se -attitude exhibition, PhD researcher in Uniarts Helsinki, Miina Hujala.
