NEXT PLANET PAVEL MRKUS
[21.09.2012 - 13.01.2013]
Hall, Wing
Curator: Michal Kolecek
Next Planet touch phenomena on the borders of real – physical and illusive – data spaces. The art works oscillate between material and immaterial, depictive and non-depictive, realism and abstraction. Parallels within the datascape and physical world can be observed both in visual form and language we use to describe the two realities. The exhibition consists of video installations and installations with interactive elements.

BOYS’ GAMES JARMO MÄKILÄ
[15.06.2012 - 02.09.2012]
HALL, WING, MEDIApoint, LOBBY
The art museum will be taken over by Jarmo Mäkilä’s new installations, sculptures and paintings: a group of boys romping about making mischief, searching for their adulthood and growing a shield against the world. These rites of initiation involve risks. The world of young boys is tinged by violence, most relevantly the threat of violence. Their reality is made of subjugation and submission. The happiness of childhood is a taboo one is forbidden to question. On the way to the world of small boys, to the twilight zone between dream and wakefulness, the viewers encounter the artist and also their own memories of childhood and youth.

MONDRIAN VARIATIONS Sándor Vály
[30.03.2012 - 27.05.2012]
MEDIApoint
For the painter Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) music was a source of inspiration. He loved dancing, and often the rhythms of music and dance found their way into his paintings. One of his most famous paintings is Broadway Boogie-Woogie. Artist Sándor Vály and composed-musician Éva Polgár have notated Mondrian’s paintings, creating an audiovisual work from them. The premiere of the work will be performed at the Pori Art Museum in May 2012. The composition will be interpreted by Éva Polgár on the piano and artist Sándor Vály on the sampler.

OP – POP – POST. THE MAIRE GULLICHSEN AND MODERNISM SERIES
[10.02.2012 - 27.05.2012]
PROJECT ROOM
Op Art creates optical illusions of vibrant movement with abstract forms and the juxtaposition of colours. It had a considerable influence on the imagery in popular culture, such as fashion and album covers. Pop Art broke boundaries between art and popular culture and pioneered many phenomena in contemporary art. Post-modern attitude broke even the last boundaries of art. It is characterized by irony, play and allusions to the history of art. The works in the exhibition are selected from the collections of the Pori Art Museum.
