Be Fragile! Be Brave! is a sequence to 2017 exhibition Anu Põder. Be Fragile! Be Brave! at Kumu Art Museum. As the first show evolved around retrospective, historical, thematic and material recontextualisation of the work of Estonian sculptor and installation maker Anu Põder (1947–2013), the new exhibition in Pori Art Museum will continue paying tribute to Anu Põder’s artistic ouevre, while in Pori the aim is to put emphasis on focusing on art works that are simultaneously intimate and social, abstract and exact, fragile and brave.

The exhibition will also present early and rare bronze sculptures, from Polish sculptor Alina Szapocznikow (1926–1973) express her witty humour on time and age, a large scale installation by sculptor and installation maker Iza Tarasewicz (b. 1981), a light-sensitive sound installation by Estonian composer and experimental musician Liisa Hirsch (b. 1984). Melanie Bonajo’s (b. 1978) video installation Night Soil - Economy of Love (2016) portrays a movement of female sex workers who regard their work as a way for women to reclaim power and introduces one possible feminist perspective of contemporary spirituality in relation to expectations surrounding gender roles.

In addition, the exhibition will have an extended public and educational programme developed by Pori Art Museum.

The exhibition is made in collaboration with Art Museum of Estonia, Tartu Art Museum, Tuglas Society, Łódź Art Museum, Iza Tarasewicz Studio, family of Anu Põder, AKINCI Gallery and it is supported by Estonian Embassy, Embassy of the Rebublic of Poland
