ERODING HUMAN MEMORY - THE PROCESS OF CREATION OF MEANINGS

The Erosion of Memory explores the temporal layers and modes of viewing associated with public art. Open Storage offers the public a different view of art by placing the museum’s collections on open display in the Hall, the museum’s main exhibition space. The Create Zone is a place for participation that now has a dedicated space of its own, adjacent to the Open Storage display in the Hall.

Ex Nihilo is an experimental short documentary about life, death and our attempts to control them. It tells the stories of an advanced humanoid robot, a cryonics facility, where the brains of deceased people are held and of a international seed vault, where crop seed from around the world are held frozen.

Derek Holzer's PERFORMANCE:
VECTOR SYNTHESIS
23 Augustat 6 pm.

 

VECTOR SYNTHESIS is an audiovisual, computational art project using sound synthesis and vector graphics display techniques to investigate the direct relationship between sound+image. It draws on the work of Steina & Woody Vasulka and the Rutt-Etra Video Synthesizer they employed for many of their signature works, as well as ideas of media archaeology and the creative re-use of obsolete technologies such as the Cathode Ray Tube monitor. Audio waveforms control the vertical and horizontal movements as well as the brightness of a single beam of light, and what is both seen and heard are an expression of the same electronic signal.

Nasan Tur works in an intermediate area between the urban and the gallery space, drawing his material from messages and tensions he finds in the urban environment. He uses the city and its various spaces as a venue for intervention and performance, recruiting local citizens as participants. Some of the projects are on such a large scale that their presentation requires streets to be complemented with gallery or museum spaces.

About Us


Pori Art Museum is famous for its exhibitions of international contemporary art. It was founded in 1981 around Professor Maire Gullichsen´s art collection. Constructivism, Fluxus, trends in earth and conceptual art have all served as signposts on the museum´s path in the exploration of new phenomena in art.
